Lens Artist Challenge – Seen Better Days

This week the Lens Artist team have invited us to find places and things that have “seen better days“. Take a look at Tina’s over at Travels and Trifles to get more information.

I copied Tina’s idea of framing my photos using the app that came with my iMac, Photoscape X. I am debating whether to purchase the paid version, but seems quite expensive for the amount of time I would use it. Any suggestions of good photo editing apps, especially framing.

Found in Cavtat, Dubrovnik

I came across the above houseboat while out walking a while ago. Obviously it has spent a long time below water and has just been rescued and brought to the surface. It is completely full of barnacles.

Advice not taken by the sailors of the boats above!

Old dilapidated farmhouse, Tasmania

Buildings like these fascinate me and I had to yell stop to my hubby while driving so I could get out and take a photo. Something about them just resonates, who lived here, why did they leave and why is it still standing?

Balloch Castle, Scotland

A very grand old house (early 19th Century) sitting above a wonderful country park. Completely deserted and derelict. It now belongs to a County Council and has been listed for repairs since 2014. Sadly in 2019 nothing had yet been undertaken.

Shed, Tasmania

“the actual building was old and dilapidated and remained standing more out of habit than from any inherent structural integrity” ` Douglas Adams, The Salmon of Doubt

I think the above quote aptly sums up the images of these buildings

Wish you were here with me

A beautiful spring day in Perth, WA

After playing mahjong last week this sculpture caught my eye, I couldn’t work out what it said at first, it took my friend and I several tries! It sits on the beach promenade at City Beach, WA.

~ Most things look better when you put them in a circle ~

Another fun photo challenge from Cee, and you may have guessed from the title that she’s asking for circles and wheels.

Once again I’ve combed my archives and put together a gallery.

Life is a full circle, widening until it joins the circle motions of the infinite” : Anais Nin

To finish, some jokes I found about circles!

Artificial Light – Lens Artist

This week for Lens Artist Challenge we are asked to look for artificial light which is hosted by Leya.

Bright Lights, Big City

Light must come from inside. You cannot ask the darkness to leave; you must turn on the light – Sogyal Rinpoche

Works of art that I’ve gathered over the years. I wonder how long and how many attempts it took to hang these lights!

“You see these thick curtains shut out the daylight: artificial light suits me a great deal better; it’s absolutely steady, and much more exciting” ~Pablo Picasso~

Lens-Artist Challenge – Going Wide

This week Patti at P.A. Moed has set the challenge of “Going Wide”. This means taking photos with the wide angle lens on your camera. Most of the time I use my Galaxy S10 which has three cameras including the wide angle lens. I find that it generally takes very good photos. I do own a Canon Powershot but to take above average shots I think I would need a tripod.

Below are some I’ve taken over the years.

All Alone

This week the word for One Word Sunday is reflection. I took a photo of this very lonely heron in Hobart, Tasmania.

Perhaps he didn’t think he was quite alone

A Night out in the City

I thought it was high time we went out for dinner in the city, so yesterday I booked a restaurant that we’ve been to before but not for a while. Normally we tend to just visit our local as we know what we’re getting and always enjoy it! But time for a change. We only live 15 minutes away so it’s not a hassle.

When we arrived our hostess showed us to our table upstairs. I didn’t even know this place had an upstairs let alone a roof top area. We had a lovely table with an outside heater, although one arm got very warm while the other froze! I wondered being right at the top how the service would be. Well no worries there because we didn’t have to wait long at all. The service at this restaurant is first class and the atmosphere was wonderful.

OUR FOOD

Here we have Garlic Potato Gems, Caramelised Pork Satay Dip with Puffed Rice Crackers, Crispy Fried Chicken, Shredded Duck with Rolled Turmeric Wafer and Jumbo Tiger Prawns in Black Pepper Butter.

The menu had a few sections, Eats, Small Plates and Large Plates. We went for a few small plates, before I got too carried away the waitress stopped me and said that’s enough!

Accompanied by a Tasmanian Pinot Noir

I think Perth must be one of the few cities left in Australia where the hospitality industry is booming. I hope before too long that the other capital cities begin to thrive again soon.

PS: I posted some photos on Facebook and Instagram but cut off Hubby’s head! I sure got lots of comments about that.

🐟 Ponder 🐟

This week for one word Sunday, Debbie at Travel with Intent has chosen “Pond or Ponder”. I’ve found a few with quotes to go with my photos. Stay a while and ponder.

It is better to be a big fish in a small pond than a small fish in a mighty ocean

Our little fish pond, built in 2012. Different fish and some more plants, but still going strong. DH’s (Dear Hubby) hobby.

“I have found it a singular luxury to talk across the pond to a companion on the opposite side”
~ Henry David Thoreau ~

A Koi Pond in Sengan-En Gardens, Kagoshima, Japan

“Remain in the world, act in the world, do whatsoever is needful, and yet remain transcendental, aloof, detached, a lotus flower in the pond.”
― Osho, The Secret of Secrets

It’s the smallest fish in the pond that has the most room to swim – or the smallest cow!

🎄 Christmas Trees in July 🎄

Many Australians celebrate Christmas in July as it is our coldest month. Here is a gallery of past Christmas Trees for Becky’s Squares

All from Hong Kong except one! Nowhere does Christmas trees like Hong Kong. So opulent and many of them real.
