Black and White Bird Photography Gallery: Australian Feathered Wonders

The theme for Monochrome Madness this week is birds, hosted by Elke @ Eklastic. We have so many birds here in Australia and all so colourful and it would be a shame to take away that colour. So I’ve opted for black or white, or both with just a touch of colour.

~ Willy Wagtail Wednesday ~

For the past few days I have been watching from the kitchen window, a pair of Willy Wagtails building a nest in my laundry area. They’ve decided on a spot right at the end of the line. When this happened a few years ago I had to wear a hat and glasses when hanging the washing as they would squawk around my head. I was privileged this morning as I was hanging up my sheets to take a few fairly close shots.

These birds are native to Australia and are very cute. As small as they are, they can be quite aggressive to larger birds especially the Kookaburras. You often see them just pecking away at them, quite alarming to watch. I’m not sure why the Kookaburras don’t fly away.

They were flying to and fro with tiny pieces of twigs and leaves and passing it to the other.

I turned my phone on “selfie mode” and snuck a look inside.

As you can see there is nothing there yet, only a matter of time. Although the babies will be kicked out soon enough as there’s not much room in there. I suppose with the cost of living these days that’s all they could afford.

I’ll have to find another place for my washing for a while I think.

~ Wordless Wednesday ~

One for Wednesday (not exactly wordless!) and also for Cee’s CMMC (Close up or Macro).

I spotted this handsome boy/girl on my walk today. Kookaburras don’t mind how close you get and will happily pose for a shot.

A Beach Walk with Birds

After spending the last ten days practically housebound with the flu and asthma, I finally took myself off the couch and out for a walk. Time to get some fresh air into my lungs and stretch my legs and also gather some new material for this dormant blog.

I drove to the carpark along the river and decided to take a left turn so I could walk closer to the beach. After coming to the end of the trail I wandered off through some woods which took me back to the beach and I followed the beach around to the birdlife conservation area. I’m not sure why I’ve never done this before, but I’ll definitely be doing this again.

I just about spotted these parrots the other day while walking to my Bridge club.

Upset on the Golf Course

I saw this little guy on a walk a while ago. At first I thought it was just a tree stump, but up close I knew better. The mother lay dead a few feet away and when I walked nearer a menacing magpie was flappy frantically around his head. I shooed it away and went to pick up little guy, but he flew away and tried to reach a near tree. Walking towards me were a group of golfers and as I was at the edge of the golf course I decided not to risk my head! I always wonder what happened to little guy.

I hope he grew up to be like the featured image.
