Instead of the usual trick or treating around the neighbourhood, my daughter bought tickets for a Halloween event at Perth Zoo. Thinking this would be an exciting treat for the munchkins we headed off – three ghosts and a bee.
We arrived just after 4pm to find a huge queue, good to see so many people dressed up. Heading inside we were excited to see what was on offer. Hoping for lots of treat stalls only to find more queues for these. However there were many tricks ahead!

Homemade ghost costumes made from old sheets. Needless to say they lasted for five minutes. I was the only one dressed up after that.
I think there should have been a warning as there were so many babies, toddlers and young children who could be quite scared. We walked through to see a few animals only to be scared witless by a swampy bush jumping out of the bushes. Up ahead we saw a statue or was it? Lucky for us we passed just in time before it stretched its hand out to tap someone on the head.

Walking to the giraffe and zebra enclosure we wondered what everyone was looking at. What a show they performed – two zebras fighting each other, with four giraffes galloping over (although they couldn’t get into this enclosure) to see what was going on. We stopped to watch the giraffes galloping round and round – it was just amazing.
With swampy bushes and moving statues we were on the alert for other spooky happenings. We certainly were not prepared for what lay ahead.

Scenes from The Walking Dead and Zombie Brides

We did see some animals at least.

After seeing the Walking Dead things went downhill fast. Frightened out of their wits, the munchkins wanted to go home.
In my opinion Perth Zoo charged far too much for these tickets. There are not many animals left now so maybe they needed a cash injection.
Luckily we arrived back at the house for a quick trip around the block for some trick or treating.
🐝 Anyway, I’ll bee seeing you! 🐝

Far too scary, even for me
Haha 👻
Sounds as though they badly misjudged it for children. My favourite picture is nothing to do with Halloween – I love the nosy giraffes peering over the fence.
Mine too 😁
Looks a fun place for a Hallowe’en wander. The adults were probably more scared than the children.
A shame there wasn’t any guidance about the suitability (or not) for different ages. I’m not into zombies etc myself so my favourites are the lemurs!
