🗼Travelling on the Eurostar – An Interlude in Paris 🗼

While I’m in the UK I thought I would take the opportunity to visit my lovely neighbours from Perth in Paris! They had taken an apartment for three months in the 6th District.

I debated flying against the train, what a good decision I made in taking the train! There is complete and utter chaos at the UK airports due to technical issues with air control.

My journey started at Rayleigh, Essex to St. Pancras, this involved three trains and took just over an hour.

It was packed at St.Pancras but relatively easy to go through security and immigration. The journey to Gare du Nord takes just over two hours. The service was impressive with a light lunch being served with wine and coffee.

It was a full train, but I managed to board early!
Getting settled
Au Revoir London

I hardly noticed that we had gone through the tunnel so when I checked my maps I realised I was already in France!

My only photo from the train

I arrived at Gard du Nord at 4 pm, where my friend met me. We took the metro back to the hotel I was staying at for the next three nights. I chose a hotel just five minutes away from them called Sevres Saint Germain, I loved it at first sight.

Leaving me to settle in, we agreed to meet at 6.30pm for dinner and plan my three day itinerary.

  1. What a great idea to meet up in Paris for a few days. It’s so easy on the Eurostar but I rarely use it as it’s more convenient for us to fly living so far from London. The air traffic control chaos is a complete mess, luckily I was at home for once!

  2. What a great adventure, Alison! I’ve never had an occasion to ride a train. In fact, I’ve only ever seen one passenger train in my life. (I know it sounds like I’m sheltered, but I’m really not.) One day maybe I will, and perhaps it will be the Eurostar. I look forward to hearing more about your trip.

    1. Haha too funny Kellye, I don’t consider you sheltered it’s just where you live. It was a fabulous experience and hope you get to ride one, one day 😊

      1. Bonjour Suzanne, no idea I can ask if you want.
It was quite big for a two bed apt and had two toilets, but in a great location

      2. Housesitting immersed us into the culture. Now we want to try something new when Les is well enough. Great that they’re enjoying it.

  3. This is a coincidence – we’re off to Paris, by Eurostar (wouldn’t even consider flying there!) this coming Sunday, for four nights in an apartment in the Saint Germain area 😀 Looking forward to hearing all about your adventures there!

    1. Oh yes that is a coincidence. I’ve had a fantastic three days soaking up the sights sounds and smells. I love that it’s not in a touristy area. Hard to decide where to eat though

  4. Eurostar is the best, and easiest way to travel from London to Paris. The entire experience feels luxurious. Enjoy visiting with your friend. You are in a very nice area and I believe the Luxumbourg Gardens are nearby. Well worth a visit.

    1. Thanks, it was a wonderful hotel
Definitely 4 star and not 3 like advertised
Will have to do a good review for Tripadvisor

  5. Great idea to use the train – it adds to the adventure rather than facing another airport. Did you have to book it long in advance?

    1. Thanks Marie. No I didn’t but I should have as I got the last seat and I went on the day Gatwick had all the trouble with air traffic control! I’m definitely going to do it again 😀

      1. I love the idea but to do it we’d probably still fly to London which defeats the purpose… we’d fly direct to Paris in a fraction of the time…
I’d a thought a few years back of leaving my house and walking 5 minutes to the local train and then – apart from getting the ferry across to Wales – actually going by train all the way to Mongolia or China … sounds like a bit of an effort now .. not to mention probably costing a fortune!
