Australian Women of the Past

I’ve noticed recently that Australian Women of note from the past have been painted on murals. I think it’s a great way to commemorate their lives.

Below is Dorothy Tangney, the first woman to be elected in federal parliament and also the first female senator. It is carved into the brickwork on the side of the Norfolk Hotel in Fremantle. Artist Vhils

Dame Dorothy Tangney – 13 March 1907 – 3 June 1985

Posted for Monday Mural for Sami at ColourfulWorld.

  1. That mural in Fremantle is among my favourites. Vhils is a Portuguese artist and I came across a couple of his murals in Portugal as well, all carved out of stone.
Thanks for contributing to Monday Murals Alison.

    1. I don’t think I’ve seen any of his before, very intriguing artwork. I would love to see the ones in Portugal.

    1. I didn’t realise it was carved until I looked it up and wondered how he painted on such an old wall, some people are so clever
