I must admit I’m not really one for exercise and can make up any excuse not to move off the sofa! Recently though I had to be weighed and I nearly ran away crying. One of the reasons I have not exercised that much has been due to hip bursitis. Over the past 18 months I have had two steroid injections, seen a fair few physiotherapists and even resorted to acupuncture. The acupuncture was so uncomfortable and painful that I gave that up after a few sessions. I must have spent hundreds of dollars on getting nowhere.
Perfect day for sailing Pink water weeds – Japonica?
Coming back from Tasmania and realising that I had been having such good nights sleep and also doing lots of walking, I had an epiphany while walking with my good friend Lisa. It was her suggestion actually, “a new mattress is what you need”.
So a couple of weeks ago I took my stubborn hubby, who insisted that there was nothing wrong with our mattress, to Bedshed. There was a 50% sale on, there usually is. After getting some expert advice from a 78yr old saleslady who made us lie down and try them all out, we finally made a purchase.
Now and then!
Since then I have been having the best nights sleep in such a long while and it’s actual bliss to sink into this dream of a mattress. No longer am I woken up every night feeling like I am on the seven seas in a storm when hubby gets into bed. Who knew? I’ve also been able to take up zumba again and go out for a couple of nights dancing.
Congratulations on the new mattress! It does make a big difference. I hope you get better sleep every night and that your hip pain will disappear soon.

It’s great that you’ve discovered a new mattress and increased exercise makes all the difference Alison. Hope this is the end of your hip problems. Marion

I know where you’re coming from. I changed my mattress some years ago and couldn’t believe how much better I slept. At the time they told me a mattress should be changed every 5-10 years (I wonder how our grandparents survived with one mattress for life)? Anyway, I’m now about to exchange that for an orthopedic mattress due to my spinal arthritis which makes it difficult to get out of bed in the morning, so I’m looking forward to even better quality of sleep – and life.

I love that picture of the bright yellow sails against the blue water- it just lifts the spirits with its bright and happy view. So glad you’re sleeping better! I’ve struggled with insomnia and other sleep problems for years. I showed your post to my husband and it looks like we’re going mattress shopping this weekend 🙂

How wonderful that a new mattress has made such a difference! I have lower back problems and I know if I sleep on a very soft or very hard bed it can make things worse. North Korea was a nightmare as their beds are like bricks!! I wish you much comfort from your new one 🙂

Yes, rather a lot – although I don’t think I’ve mentioned the beds (they were the one downside to an otherwise incredible trip!) See https://www.toonsarah-travels.blog/category/destinations/asia/dprk/ if you’re interested 🙂

It’s a bit like that in our house. You don’t replace anything till it’s long worn out! Unless, of course, it’s his back that hurts 🙂 🙂 Sleep well!

All of this sounds so familiar. We replaced our mattress 12 months ago and haven’t looked back.

When they carted our old one away, it folded in two. Those springs were well band truly sprung.
