It’s time for Monday Mural again and some more from Kalgoorlie.

A poem, rumoured to have been penned by US president Herbert Hoover about his love for a barmaid he met in Kalgoorlie-Boulder, is the inspiration for a larger-than-life mural painted by artist Sarah McCloskey.
Mr Hoover gave an elaborately carved mirror to the hotel as a parting gift and composed a poem to the barmaid he fell in love with.

I like to find out as much as I can about all the murals I post, some have such interesting stories. Some, I can’t find anything at all about.
Posted as part of Monday Mural hosted by Sami at ColourfulWorld.
I’m too lazy to do the research but I agree, they often have interesting back stories. These are great, and so different from each other.

Two great finds, Alison.
I like to find out the stories too, but it can be hard. Some of the artists are quite vocal about their work, others not so. And sometimes I can’t even find the artist.
It seems only fair to give them recognition given the effort they have put into providing us with their art

Yes I agree Debbie, some don’t even sign their work

Inability would have defeated any desire to paint!

There is something almost hauntingly beautiful about those murals…I think it’s the eyes of the women, beautiful but something sad to them too

Yes I agree Meg. Both stunning

Both of these murals are beautiful. I was surprised to learn something about one of our presidents. Nice tidbit to know, though.

Thanks for your comments. I did a recent post about Gwalia which also features Herbert Hoover, when he worked at the mine there.

Fascinating back story. I didn’t know this about Herbert Hoover. Are you travelling around Kalgoolie atm?

We just had two days there a fee weeks ago. I can’t remember if you read my other post about the Gwalia ghost town and mine also featuring Herbert Hoover

No I don’t think I have read that one.

That is what I do too, but sometimes Google is no help. Both beautiful but the first one really caught my attention, especially the eyes.
