Just a Girl and a Bird

It’s time for Monday Mural again and some more from Kalgoorlie.

Artist – Em Anders
Artist: – Sarah McCloskey

A poem, rumoured to have been penned by US president Herbert Hoover about his love for a barmaid he met in Kalgoorlie-Boulder, is the inspiration for a larger-than-life mural painted by artist Sarah McCloskey.
Mr Hoover gave an elaborately carved mirror to the hotel as a parting gift and composed a poem to the barmaid he fell in love with.

I like to find out as much as I can about all the murals I post, some have such interesting stories. Some, I can’t find anything at all about.

Posted as part of Monday Mural hosted by Sami at ColourfulWorld.

  1. I’m too lazy to do the research but I agree, they often have interesting back stories. These are great, and so different from each other.

  2. Two great finds, Alison.
I like to find out the stories too, but it can be hard. Some of the artists are quite vocal about their work, others not so. And sometimes I can’t even find the artist.
It seems only fair to give them recognition given the effort they have put into providing us with their art

  3. Great finds Alison. Love both of them and the story about the second mural.
Thanks for participating in Monday Murals.

    1. Thanks for your comments. I did a recent post about Gwalia which also features Herbert Hoover, when he worked at the mine there.

    1. We just had two days there a fee weeks ago. I can’t remember if you read my other post about the Gwalia ghost town and mine also featuring Herbert Hoover

  4. That is what I do too, but sometimes Google is no help. Both beautiful but the first one really caught my attention, especially the eyes.

    1. Thanks for your comments Ju-Lyn. Yes the story is very interesting, it’s only when I looked it up I found it

      1. One of the things I love about discovering outdoor art – reading up and finding these story gems! Thank you for sharing your discoveries with us Ali!
