This week the Lens Artist team have invited us to find places and things that have “seen better days“. Take a look at Tina’s over at Travels and Trifles to get more information.
I copied Tina’s idea of framing my photos using the app that came with my iMac, Photoscape X. I am debating whether to purchase the paid version, but seems quite expensive for the amount of time I would use it. Any suggestions of good photo editing apps, especially framing.

I came across the above houseboat while out walking a while ago. Obviously it has spent a long time below water and has just been rescued and brought to the surface. It is completely full of barnacles.

“I am not afraid of storms, for I am learning how to sail my ship” ~ Louisa May Alcott
Advice not taken by the sailors of the boats above!

Buildings like these fascinate me and I had to yell stop to my hubby while driving so I could get out and take a photo. Something about them just resonates, who lived here, why did they leave and why is it still standing?

A very grand old house (early 19th Century) sitting above a wonderful country park. Completely deserted and derelict. It now belongs to a County Council and has been listed for repairs since 2014. Sadly in 2019 nothing had yet been undertaken.

“the actual building was old and dilapidated and remained standing more out of habit than from any inherent structural integrity” ` Douglas Adams, The Salmon of Doubt
I think the above quote aptly sums up the images of these buildings
One thing I’ve learned with this challenge Alison, there are many, many subjects out there calling for attention! Loved your examples – the last is my favorite this week. Sadly, I’m not sure there is any such thing as “inexpensive” editing software these days. The one suggestion I would offer is to choose something you can grow with because your investment in learning the products is something you don’t want to have to repeat with another product later! I use Lightroom and Photoshop and love both but they are indeed expensive IMHO. Good luck!

This is such a fun photo challenge. Love the pictures – especially the castle! Sorry, I don’t know about any photo framing software. Perhaps a suggestion to WordPress as a future enhancement? Even simple ones could be nice! Enjoy your day!

Your photos are just perfect for this theme and I love that quote from Douglas Adams – ‘standing more out of habit’ 🙂 I create frames with Photoshop Elements but although that was good value when I bought it outright some years ago, it’s no longer cheap and I think requires a subscription. You might like to check out https://www.canva.com/ – another blogger put me on to that and you can make super designs, including frames. And many of the templates are completely free, so you don’t need to pay a penny for an account unless you want to!

Thanks so much for your comments Sarah 🙂
I have Canva but could not get my photos to go into the frames! I must have spent two hours! Before I went back to photoscape 😫

How odd? I’ve not had any problems using Canva, I find it really user-friendly. My banner for the Friendly Friday Meet challenges was created there, for instance.

I’ve used Canva for other things ..videos and collages but just could not get the frames to work. The photo went over the top or the other way round. I googled everything. I think I have to do a workshop on canva or something!

nice photos for “seen better days”
and the canoes lined up and looking up is my favorite photo of the post
– also, I don’t know any apps for photos to frame them – but I do know that sometimes the frame can pull from a photo – well I am sure you know that – and the frame can also add something to some photos. – guess it depends- but I think a frame and border has to be added with care 🙂
— and love this quote
“I am not afraid of storms, for I am learning how to sail my ship”
thanks
